as i was cleaning things up i looked at the tops of the head and GUESS WHAT :banghead: the gaskets around the mag cylinder is only half there and the one on the pto side it dried and cracked up. just stopped into the store and got 2 new ones 15$ each. I am assuming this is how the rust got on the cylinder and piston tops. Do you guys think this could be causing low compression as well?????

thanks

So i put the new head gaskets on bolted the head cover on and did a compression test to see if this changed anything. after doing 3 on each side the gauge was reading 149 psi on both head.
Does this mean that i dont need to do anything with the top end or is this something i should keep an eye on and maybe in the near future plan on doing?

thanks

Compression sounds good. From what I remember on this thread so far it sounds like you have covered most of the bases. I don't remember if you said that you cleaned the RAVE valves. If you haven't now would be a good time to do so. Don't forget to use the proper oil and break it in right. Take an extra set of plugs with you when you go to the water and after you get it broke in and running wot do an engine chop, pull the plugs and read them. Make necessary carb adj. as needed based on what the plugs are telling you.

looks like you found your problem... i was just about to say one of those pics looked like a hg was leaking as the piston had little clean spots on it around the edges.... but nevermind.lol

yea cleaning the rave valve was the first thing i did when i got it. and yea i was very happy about the compression but when i took it out to try it it seems i still haven't found the problem. Could this maybe be just a carb adjustment ?

I would like to let every know that i think the problem has gotten better but it is still not quite there it will run great out of water and when its in the water it runs ok but starting still needs some throttle and the top speed is a bit lower then when i first got it (about 5-7mph)

I didn't really want to do a top end because it is getting 150 psi of compression but can anyone think of anything else i can try?

so i know that this thread has died but just for someone looking at this and is having the same problem i ending up adjusting the oil injection cable and this has fixed the problem. he ski runs great and has no problem starting. Thank you to everyone who helped and i hope this thread helps other people in the same spot as i once was.
