Just bought a 97 GSX. Ski runs great out of the water, idles nice etc. I was told it was not used at all this summer or last. It started right up for me. It had about 3/4 tank of gas in it and i filled it up the rest before I dropped it in the water.

It will not go over 20MPH mainly 15MPH. Sounds like it is bogging down. It kicks up a little and gets to 20-25 sometimes.

I order a new wear ring and will be replacing that on this ski and another one I own.

Dirty carbs? Rectifier? Any ideas?

Thanks

mines doing the same thing and its the carbs, change the fuel lines and fuel filter, take the carbs off and buy rebuild kits and replace the needle valves,
then replace the spark plugs and you should be good to go, also make sure and set the high and low adjustments while the carbs are off

97 gsx issue

Hello everyone..
I have a 97 GSX as well, it started out bogging down and no high rpms ran about 15 or the lake, brought it back to the shore, tried to adjust the raves, only to find out that one was stripped out in the threads and not opening at all. And had a hole in the exhaust freeze plug i believe what it is called. Fixed that to, and well put the thing back in the water this yr and it wouldn't even start. backfire spit and cough. So i got some rebuild kits and for the carbs, replaced the gray fuel lines, still wouldn't run. checked compression read 60 psi on both cylinders. i thought i'd give it a shot and just for the heck of it and replace the plugs, only thing i haven't done yet. and Bam started right up and ran good on land. took it to the water and it would run like at 7050 Rpm's and only do about 43 if i laid down on the bike. and from what i've read this bike should do about 60+, So where do i go from here??? Carb Adjustments? or wear ring? or Rave valve adjustments? sorry for the book but figured i'd get it all in there at once. Thanks for any help with this issues.
Butch..

If u only have 60psi on your compression, time for a rebuild! Ideally u want 120-150 psi! Anything below, rebuild it!

When you did your test, did you ground your plug wires to the ground block on the black box? Was your engine warm?

Yeah I'm thinking that the tester wasn't working correctly. at 60 psi would it still run 41mph and have 7020 rpm's? and when i tested the compression it wouldn't start and run. it had fouled out plugs in it , reason for the backfiring after i built the carbs i'm guessing. And nope only heat in the engine was from trying to start the thing.
