The fuel selector valve was completely disassembled as far as I could, cleaned gone through and checked, then put back on and checked to insure fuel flow. Like I said, I am pulling my hair out with this thing, and I don't have much hair so will be bald very quickly. I just can't help but think it is something small, it runs to nice with no misses or anything at idle and up to 1/4 throttle. There just has to be something I am missing but I haven't figured it out yet.

I was thinking about that. For giggles I called a dealership, the guy seemed pretty straight forward, and he said the 787 engine is unique in that when the engine is changed, as mine was, that the trigger coils in the stator assembly are permanently fixed, no adjustment, and therefore the timing needs to be adjusted or set anytime you change the motor. Not sure of the truth to this, and anyone here feel free to chime in, but the only way to adjust the ignition timing on the 787 is the use of an MPEM programmer, and there is a certain number they put in to either adjust or retard by a certain degree required. If so, I am stuck taking to a dealership to have that timing set, and they are all backlogged 1 to 2 weeks. Any feedback from the numerous sea doo experts out here?

well homie... i cant tell you if it's a timing problem... but, i have a 97 that was doing the same thing... it does NOT have a new motor in it... and furthermore when i test rode it (april), it ran friggen great... outta the gate (no wake zone) hammered it, held her to the wood.. straight outta the water and she climbed quickly to 60 mph right around 7g's....then me pop's took them out a month later in march or so, said first time he got on it it was surging???? i've rebuilt the fuel system and Fully serviced them, just have not had a chance to get to the water.... started one up with the hose it ran great and had good throttle response??? so i'm praying for the same on water!!! mines surging almost at the same stages from 7000 back to 4500, back and forth? i think. i hope i have resolved the problem.. i will let you know as soon as i know something, you do the same... i will be in Canada this week i leave in a day or two and be back in a couple weeks... goin to F1, so i wont know anything before then....

I took my carbs off and dissassembled and replaced the diaphragms and after I reassembed the carbs and went to recoonect the fuel lines I found my mistake. I had accidentally connected the restricted reserve hose to the supply nipple on the second carb. That must be what was causing the surging, not enough pressure and volume getting to the rear carb when in demand! What a stupid but simple mistake! Should run great now. I'm taking it out for a test tomorrow once the carbs are back on!

Switching the fuel lines back to their proper locations between the carbs solved my surging issue. I noticed that my engine wouldn't turn over yesterday and I assummed that the battery was low so I charged it. Did the same thing today. It gets a partial turn and then stops. Acted like it was freezing up. I pulled the rear plug and cranked it and it spewed out a lot of gas and oil. I think that maybe leaving my fuel knob on allowed the pressure in the tank to push fuel into my cylinders during the week! Gotta keep that fuel knob off when stored! If it happens again I may replace the pressure check valve on the vent hose. Otherwise, it ran great on a fresh set of plugs today.

When riding at 7pm this evening until sunset. It was low tide and I was mainly riding off shore where it was deeper. I came back into the bay to ride around and it was very shallow. I ran up on a sand bar and was unable to navigate back off of it and got stuck in 6 inches of water! I tried to drag the jetski from the front with a rope but no use. I saw the channel that my jetski or maybe someone else's jetski made earlier and had to get on my knees and push my Seadoo into the little channel that was about 12 inches deep and make my way out to the edge of the sandbar near a real channel. Whew! Thought I might be out there after dark until the tide came back in! Got back into the channel and opened her up to help flush out any sand. Seems to be fine. I did kill the engine once I went aground. I gave it a thorough flushing when I got home. Nice thing is, the county hooked us up to a new water line today and we have more water pressure now! I'm ready for the GTG at the Skyway coming up!

I felt the ski touch down here and there as I was approaching the sand bar and knew what was coming! When I realized I was coming off plane and running out of deep enough water I killed the motor. I never went up on dry land, it wasn't really exposed, just about 6 inches deep. If it were a narrow sandbar I would have cleared it!

lol...love the way you look at it ... if it were more narrow i would have cleared it...lol F*#@^*g sand bar...lol, if you lived on the WC we would have to met and ride sometime. glad your ski is running "tops", im gonna take one of mine out tomorrow, after the carb rebuild, really hope it runs good or its a done deal; it WILL be for sale....lol

Got a MityVac Pressure/Vacuum tester this week so I can properly test the pop off pressures on my carbs. Trying to dial them in. I'm running too rich on the low end and before drasticly leaning the mixture screws I want to test the needles and seats first. I got my speedometer working consistantly and saw a sustained speed of 56mph. Is that pretty good for a 787 GTX model?

I rebuilt my carbs and threw in a new wear ring right when i got my ski a month ago and i have been seeing the same results(haven't been out in glass conditions yet) 55mph at 6550 rpm , and now I need an oil pump the cable support rusted and fell off right as i was flushing! lucky me . Got one comin in the mail and ill be back to the water :)

I havent experienced any surging yet and hope not to !

good luck to you guys Anyone have a mint gauge deflector for sale? pm me

Testing Pop Off Pressures

It finally stopped raining this week so when I got home tonight I pulled my carbs off and tested the pop off pressures on both carbs with my new pressure tester! The magneto carb was popping off at about 15psi and the pto carb was popping off at about 31psi. So I guess the front carb was creating my rich condition and fouling my spark plugs! I changed out a spring and tweaked the fulcrum and got the front to pop off at about 31psi as well. So, I hope to ride this Saturday and see if it has a better idle, easier starts, and better overall performance. I have a feeling it will be a night and day difference!

The connectors on my trailer lights were getting baddly corroded and finally broke off. The lights were getting pretty dim prior to the failure. Put a new male and female pigtail on tonight, did it right with solder and heat shrink tubing. I was amazed at how bright all the lights became again! Like new!

hhheeeyyyyooo to all tha homies, long time no chat...finally made it to Cali all moved in and everything, so capn' is it true if you warp your carbon ring that it will cause cavatation??? i still hav'nt been able to go for a "real" ride, on my ski's i have redone everything, if you can remember, and did the genuine mukini rebuild kit with a guy that really knows his isht..pop off at 27-29 psi... EVERYTHING....still bbbbrrrrrrr, she wont go, then i thought back to when i first got them (skis) and before i knew better, i started the skis on the hose a "few" (3-5) times, and let them run for a while maybe 5-7 minutes each time...thus i think warping the ring...is this possibly my problem??? and furthermore, i heard about a "bearing" style sheal instead of the poopy carbon ring, where can i obtain and does anyboy have a clue on the cost????

My ski is running great apart from having to change a motor mount.
