I recently purchased a 97 GTX. When on the water the ski runs great at about half throttle. When going full throttle, it goes back and forth. Every 3-4 seconds it will jet forward then come right back down. I just took apart the carbs. Even though both carb filters and fuel filter looked great, I am going to replace these along with the old grey fuel lines. Are there any other suggestions while I have it torn apart of what to check/do?? I am brand new to this stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Had mostly the same issue with my 97 GSX. Ended up replacing all the fuel lines with new lines, rebuilt the carbs (with genuine Mikuni), replaced the fuel selector valve and it ran like a top. Make sure to check your internal fuel filters in the carbs as they are known to gum up pretty easily.

Best,
Jake

Start with the carbs. Follow the carb rebuild thread in the sticky section of this two stroke area, it is the best walk through you will find anywhere.

Replace the gray fuel lines, replace the fuel selector switch. Make sure everything is air/gas tight. Make sure the o-ring on the filter bowl is in place and in good shape.
