Hey Gents. I am new to this forum and pretty impressed with it so far. I bought a used '97 GTX last fall. I have ridden it a few times so far with much frustration. It starts up fine and runs great WOT for about 10-15 min, then runs rough and even stalls. When looking at the RAVE valves, I see drops of water coming from the valve nearest the front/exhaust side. Should water be able to get to that area? Shouldn't the pressure from the exhaust keep water from nearing the engine where the exhaust attaches? What should I look for in troubleshooting? I'd appreciate feedback.

do compression test first, then if good, re-seal/new gasket for the headpipe and probably the manifold as well...

Hey Puptruk. Had a similar problem on my '97 GTX last year. Would run fine at WOT for a little while and then would bog down real bad.... Ran OK at lower RPMs. After spending many hours on this site discovered the problem was with the fuel system. To make a long story short, cleaned carbs, cleaned carb filters, new fuel line everywhere, cleaned fuel valve, cleaned fuel filter.. It runs like a scalded dog again!

It was a bugger of a job, but it was well worth it. BTW, buy FI fuel line.

My overall conclusion is the hoses used back in 1997 were not designed to handle the Ethanol in today's fuel. They more or less melt from the inside. Everything I touched was partially clogged with a green "goo".

There is plenty of information on this site to do this job.

Good luck!

yeah i agree with grey fuel line thing. i live in the uk where ethanol is not used in our fuel YET! at my jetski club everybody has grey lines with no problems. so yeah i do beleive it is the ethanol that kills the grey lines
