1997 GSX Fuel Line Replacement Questions

Getting ready to start buying parts. Most threads I read recommend using basic 5/16 black rubber fuel line for both 6mm and 8mm grey fuel lines, since the 6mm lines are either oil or fuel return.

This is the stuff I want to buy. I've read that there isn't much difference between black rubber and clear, except you can see bubbles with clear. I think it will look nicer too. It's pretty, and blue. Could someone please bless this stuff, so I can order it?

I can't find any reference that tells me the number of fuel line "pieces", so I can't estimate the number of stainless steel hose clamps. I'm buying them from eBay too, so would 15 hose clamps be enough?

Any other advise on fuel line replacement appreciated. I've done a lot of reading, but spending money makes me nervous, since shipping it back is not cost-effective.

We recommend black automotive fuel line. 6mm would be 1/4" and 8mm would be 5/16. This stuff is available at any local auto store and is of better quality then that blue stuff. The vinyl lines get stuff after a couple months and are more likely to leak. They also kink easier and have a lot less abrasion resistance.

Here is some blue stuff after 1 season. Ski I just bought the guy replaced the fuel lines last year.

I used some from fuel-line.com in my last build and it's held up well so far this year. We'll see after it sits over winter with fuel in the lines though.

I have found that with the regular automotive fuel hose it compresses more with the zip ties providing a more secure connection on the fittings than the blue stuff.

I use the expensive Thomas & Betts zip ties with the stainless locking tab. They are so much easier and faster to install and don't loosen up.

The extra money for "low permeation" hose is not necessary, as these machines are not under EPA regulations. L/P hose is for "tier 2 & 3" EPA regs on later model equipment.

How do you know how much of which to buy? Couldn't I just do the whole thing in 5/16"? The posts of read never say more than 25 feet total. Any guess on how many pieces of fuel line and from there how many hose clamps?

Also I'd like to note, for anyone else that might be shopping for the black rubber fuel line on eBay, the most effective search terms I've found is "thermoid 1/4 25" and "thermoid 5/16 25".
