Also the SBT and aftermarket starters have the wrong cast endcap so people don't use the rear support bracket and they fall apart. I don't care what you say as I have personally seen at least a dozen aftermarket starters fail and every year we get members here have them fail with perfectly fine engines. Use what you like but all starters are not created equal, if they were I would have no problem recommending them.

So back to the ski, how difficult should the motor be to turn over? with the plugs out its kind of difficult to turn over by hand but it does fully turn over. Its a brand new top end with brand new jugs that came as a full kit. They are .5 over. The rave valves are already machined down and do not come close to catching the rings. I'll look into getting an oem starter off ebay and rebuilding one but I don't want to do that until I am sure its the starter.

Made in Japan? Yeah right. Friends don't let friends buy sbt. And when your mechanic says go with the sbt, you know he likes the profit margins more than fixing your ski right.

You will feel the pistons going up and down and the rotary valve is turning so it’s not like it just spins with one finger or anything. There’s some resistance but it should be smooth and not feel like it’s hanging up at any point.
