1997 GS 720 with leak in Tuned Pipe Soft Plug

Can the soft plug be replaced in the tuned pipe? Mine is leaking on my 1997 GS 720.

OK guys, up for sale are high quality welch plugs made from 6061 aluminum cut at 3/16" thick to fix your leaking head pipe plugs. We all know over time these will spring a leak and it drives me crazy to see guys JB Weld them (lots of questions this summer), do it once and do it right. So I decided to make these and offer them to you guys here. The pricing is easy. $5 per piece and $5 shipping. The next question is, how to remove the old one and replace with the new plug? Are special tools required?

Grind the old one off. Have someone with a TIG welder weld the new one on. So yes, special tools.

I had to have one welded this year, I had a spare head pipe but when I pressure tested it, it leaked as well, had them both welded for 50.00 CDN and the welder ground off the old material. I would recommend pressure testing it before and after the welding just in case. Don’t want to get it back together and find that it’s still leaking

I might have used stainless mesh and JB Weld to fix my wife's GTI. But if anyone asks I didn't, and fixed it the correct way...
