How many cables are connected to your ground post on the battery. I went to remove my battery tonight and found that there was a second ground cable not connected. It looks like it comes from the port engine. The one that was connected looks like it was coming from the electrical box on the starboard side of the boat.

Any Ideas what this second cable is?

i got 97 chal 1800, one of the wires on mine is ground for the mpem and the other is hooked to the ground on port starter

thanks! I guess it must have never been reconnected when the previous owner replaced the battery....surprising that the port engine was starting just fine with it disconnected, I wonder if it was grounding to the engine block....

no prob, btw the port starter is grounded to the block also, my starboard starter is connected to the neg of the mpem and the starb block. i thought it was weird but i guess not now. if am doing some work to motors so i will try to answer any questions. i just bought my 1800 two weeks ago and my first motor problem was the starb starter. the best advice ive been give is to swap parts b/n motors to troubleshoot. laterz
