Hello everyone,

new here and also new owner of a 96 xp. Had some troubles on the lake this weekend with the ski. It will fire up but will die out if either too much throttle is given. I was able to get it to start quite a few times by giving it very light throttle for about 60 seconds then it would run and be fine till it was shut down again. Repeated the same process about a dozen times. Where should I start? The day before I took it out(first time I’ve taken it out) I replaced all of the grey fuel lines with some standard automotive 1/4 fuel line. Plugs are also new.

just rebuilt with geniune mikuni kit last night. also new seats and needles. they will be going back on tonight.

How much did the kits cost you, I've been putting off doing mine since I bought my ski, just had to feather it up from idle sometimes, but I think it finally caught up with me

i think it was 134 with free shipping off amazon. came with needles and seats
Did you check pop-off pressure and leak test them?
Did you use the springs in the kit or the original OEM springs...the kit springs are usually the wrong springs....the '96 used 80 gram springs which the mikuni kits do not provide.
Once re-installed, you need to sync the oil pump as well.

PS: You are in the 4 stroke forum...your '96 XP is a 2 stroker.

I did not test pop off pressure. I did use the old springs. How do I sync the oil pump once complete?

yea I realized I posted in the wrong section so it’s double posted. Thanks for the reply’s though.

Testing pop-off and leak testing SHOULD be done.....otherwise, you might be chasing your tail with performance issues later on.....been there, done that!
