Just bought 2 1996 GTX's and one of them has a loose sponson on the water box side is there a way to tighten them? Called the dealer and they said that they were cast into the fiberglass with no way to tighten them. To me that seems so stuppid. If so I thought of notching the sponson on the outside with a dremel tool on the top side and getting at the bolts from there. So please help I have lots of questions and repairs to make. I have very little gauge funcionality basicly the hot water engine light and the low oil light work and the rpm and nothing else. I have been reading posts on the issues I have and see most of my repairs except for the sponson issues. I got a good deal and dont mind working on them they both run great like new cosmeticly. Got a ticket for taking them to the river to test them yesterday without registering them first but Oh well had a blast for an hour after the DNR guy left.......

Remove water box and use a 10 mm deep socket to tighten it up

Thats what I figured, but the service guy at the sea doo dealer kept telling me I was wrong. Wasnt going to argue with him I dont work on these for living, but I dont plan on letting him work on it after that. I'm taring into the jets on both today to drain and change oils out. He said most overlooked item on ski's and biggest breakdown on old ski's. I'm going to try and tighten the sponson blind with extension and spring swivel and not remove water box. Thanks for the use of your thoughts and knowledge.

These ski's are awsome the Horsepower blew my mind. I can spin it around 180 deg and sink it backwards and launch it out of the water completly with me and my 7 year old little girl on it.

Welcome! One of the best things you can do is download a manual off the net. You can find them for free easily. Then you will see that they are bolted on. What is the dealer thinking? The hull is fiberglass and the sponsons are a thermoplastic.... But it is good to post questions to learn. Make sure your fuel system is pristine . These things need proper fuel supply or you will toast a motor. Do you know if the fuel lines have been changed and the carbs gone through? If they are grey lines, you have a timebomb until you change them out.

All of the lines have been replaced on one of them and the engine out and rebuilt. The other is all original I got the 2 diffrent hose size kits from the dealer to replace the old grey lines. I had read that was an issue before I got them, I used that info to shave 500.00 dollars off the price plus a carb on it is dirty and misses when you first crank it then it straightens out after a minute and it is fine after that.

The 2 cycle oil lines have been replaced on both with a clear single wall tubing you can see the oil all the way to the motor.
