1996 GTX - not accelerating

After finishing my project of replacing fuel lines, cleaning carborator, and fuel tank, I took the GTX for a spin.

Day 1: It ran well, except if I went full throttle, it would always die as soon as I started to decelerate.

Day 2: Started out running well, but then it stopped accelerating. I could go maybe 15 mph, but then more throttle would cause the RPM's to rev way up, with no boat acceleration.

I was in shallow water when it first started doing this, so its possible sucked up some gunk, but not sure. This is the same behavior it had last season, which is why I cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel lines.

Any advice on what to look at first would be appreciated.

Ok I am a little confused. You started a thread with fuel delivery problems and 5 minutes later started another thread with acceleration problems.

What is it?
Does the engine rev up or not?
The engine revs good but the ski doesn't go anywhere...maybe?

The other thread was started last week, and I replied saying the problem was solved. This is a new problem, as described above.

OK got it... both your posts were together in the troubleshooting section with 5 minutes difference between them, I just didn't look at the date.

If you engine revs good and strong and you don't seem to go anywhere then I would check:
1. Drive shaft going into the engine. The splines might be stripped.
2. Check the clearance between the impeller and the wear ring. No more that a skinny dime cleareance.
3. Pull the Jet pump and inspect. While apart change any worn parts including the wear ring.

Good luck
