I would go all the way back to the MPEM and unplug the connection there that feeds the solenoid the start voltage. (yellow/red wire) Test it with your meter there. Between the yellow with red stripe and a good ground. If it is feeding 12V without you pushing the start button, the MPEM is bad. But if it is really doing that, then your solenoid should be switched all the time and the motor would be constantly cranking. So I doubt it really is doing that. Maybe test it with a 12v test light so there is some minor load on it.

Its not 100% constant, its just opposite of what you would expect. The only time the trigger wire is not hot is while pushing the start button.

OK, maybe grasping at straws, but does your VTS work? You may try unpluggin the VTS then try starting the ski. The VTS ground wires are common with the solenoid. Maybe some back voltage is messing you up. But isolating it at the MPEM per my above question should work anyway.

It did work. I've never messed with the VTS, I assume there is a wiring harness coming off of it that you want me to unplug?

Yep, the VTS module going bad is known to blow the 5 amp fuse and also mess with the MPEM. So taking it out of the mix is an easy test. Just unplug it at the VTS. But I still would go all the way back and unplug the yellow/red wire at the MPEM and test it there.

If you do decide to get a new MPEM, then Minnetonka4me does actually take them back for a small restock charge if it does not correct your problem. So that reduces the risk of ordering one.

I yanked the mpem and bench tested it. Sure enough, the yellow/red wire and ground test are out of spec. Its supposed to be greater than 50k ohms. Mine is testing 43k. I don't know if that is a big deal or not.

The Grey/White and ground test is really out of wack. Manual says it is supposed to be > 9k and < 11 k. Mine tests at 31k

I am sending the mpem to @Mineetonka4me for verification since he specializes in these things. Hopefully I can get this thing straightened out soon. Its almost riding season!
