1996 Challenger, seized carb throttle

Hi Guys,

Boat has been sitting for 3 months without running.
Boat is 99% of the time used in Salt water.
I've started it for the first time the other day and it went straight to rev limiter.
I've pulled apart the throttle assembly, cable is fine.
But the part the cable attaches to on the carb is completely seized.
I've managed to force it to closed and back to open, but it won't spring back from wide open.

The bolt retaining the carbs are seized on and will require a lot of work to remove the carbs.

Has anyone had this happen before, how to I go about about fixing it?

I've got average mechanical skills from working on cars.

Well.... that's what happens in salt water when it's not properly put to bed.

I would try to spray the carb links, and shafts with storage oil, and let it sit for a day. If it doesn't' loosen up... then the carbs need to come apart.

If you are going to run in salt... it has to be cleaned, flushed, and oiled after every ride.

Definitely going to need to come apart then, have loaded it with XPS Oil for 2 days. Respraying both nights before.

I'm typically pretty good with maintaining it, and spray the whole engine in XPS. But these linkages are so far under the air box, I'm surprised Bombardier leave something so vulnerable so close to the bottom of the bilge without making specific instuctions to coat them in XPS regularly like they do with spraying inside the carbs when flushing.

Anyway, thats life

Will need to work on somehow loosening these carb bolts.
 
Yep... I understand. Sometimes... you just want to park it, and go sit down.

As far as getting the carb bolts off... Get the air box off, and spray them all down with PB blaster. It soaks in better than most penetrating oils. Give it over night, and you should be able to get it apart.
