Trying to get the machine out of the water works if not too much throttle is applied. If too much, the motor over-revs and power is lost. Very similar to a spun rubber hub in an outboard propeller. Is there some tipe of rubber link in the driveline that can fail when too much power is applied?

Wear Ring, Carbon Ring ???

Visually check your wear ring for damage, also check the clearance between the impeller and wear ring, no more than .040".

It could also be your carbon ring, it acts sorta like a clutch. I don't know a way to check the carbon ring, except to remove the drive shaft, and visually inspect it.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Carbon Ring

The carbon ring is located on the drive shaft. Remove the flywheel/driveshaft cover by loosening the two wingnuts. The carbon seal is located just ahead of the rubber bellows, before the flywheel. It rides inside a carrier.

Unfortunatly I don't know of a way to check it except by visual inspection which requires the removal of the driveshaft.
