1995 xp and 1996 xp issue - oil and water nozzles/nipples

Hello again. I recently put together mine 1995 xp and in my haste to get it running prior to the summer ending, I did not use loctite 515 (or teflon tape) around the oil line nipple on the carburetor side of the engine at the bottom. I am seeking guidance on how I could seal this up without having to remove everything again and drain the oil. I only realized my error when putting together one of my 96 xps which led to my next problem.

The two water cooling intakes on the side of the engine opposite of the carbs have white dust in the threads that is preventing the nipple from being screwed in. I have used a brass brush to try and remove it, however, I have been unsuccessful. In the process of using the brush, I removed the paint off of the inside of the holes at the back which I guess will be bad since it has water rushing through it (will degrade faster?). On one of the holes, the threads after about 3 or 4 are completely gone as if they disintegrated.

Recapping with pics below (pic of oil stem is of 787 just for reference but it is the 717 which I didn't use 515 on)

1) Is there a quick way to seal up the oil line nipple at the bottom of the engine on the 717 without having to remove everything?

2) Suggestions on how to remove the white calcified residue from the inside of the water cooling holes on the 787?

3) Will the missing threads on the one hole be an issue for nipple being screwed in?

Thank as always.

They are pipe threads so if they are leaking without sealant there is no way to stop it without taking it apart and applying the proper sealant. I would not use Teflon tape as the oil might degrade it.

For the holes on the cylinders you will need to get the proper pipe tap and just clean up the threads.

The lower fitting on the carb side, I'd almost be willing to bet you nicked the tube with the hose clamp. Especially if you didn't clip the old end off before re-installing the line.

So far, I cannot see any leaking. I was just assuming it would eventually leak since I didn't use the loctite 515 stuff per the manual which caused me to be afraid that the engine wouldn't get enough oil.

Is it possible that without the sealant and just relying on the pipe threads that it won't leak? I really hate to take it apart again as I am still battling the two 96s which are currently beating me. Thank you for the replies.

Yes, it could seal. Actually, a tapered pipe thread is meant to seal on just 2 threads interfering with each other. The sealant is meant to help that. So, you could get lucky.

Agreed. No leak no problem.

People really stand by the product "Salt Away". Flushing with it keeps that white chalky stuff from building up but I'm not sure what kind of job it will do cleaning it out after the fact. Those water jackets always look rough though, if it's not full of sand or clogged your doing good.
