So I just bought a used 1995 SPX...I have no idea what Im doing as I have never owned any watercraft...heres the deal..

Eveerything was running good when I bought it from a guy...I got home and tried to flush it with the hose....I hooked the hose up and turned the water on and then tried to start the jet ski.....I kept trying to start it for 4-5min with the water running and then realized I must be doing something wrong....I looked up a DIY article today and saw it say "Start engine before turning on water. Do not turn on the water. (IF you force water into the motor without it running, water can and will backtrack up into the carbs and cylinders causing hydro-lock.).....

So Im assuming that i caused "hydro-lock"? Is there any way to fix what I did?

Thanks

Yup, Id say you filled it up with water. Pull the spark plugs out and crank the engine and see if you can blow the water out. Maybe spray some WD40 in the cylinders and then crank it some more. Dry off the plugs and see if it starts... good luck!

yep, from now on, 1.crank the engine 2.turn on the water 3. turn off water 4. turn off ski. I was told this is to flush the engine, and is not enough water to sustain the reving the engine as it will overheat with insuffecient water flow.

Get out and ride out the rest of the moisture for 1/2 hour or so, mark the oil tank to be sure it is drinking - now is more important than ever to get clean oil into the lower end to prevent the rusty lockup from moisture.
