1995 SPX 657x oil block off question

Hello. My brother and I were just talking and were wondering do you have to put the oil block off plate in or can you just drain the oil, crimp the line and then premix gas and oil. This came up because I am getting lot's of oil out exhaust on first start up. I know this is a problem with the oil injection part of motor. Just wanted to get some input.

Nope, the excess oil is probably coming from leaky seals from sitting to long.
many will tell you if injection system works keep it.

About the only way the excess smoking can be from the oil injection is if the cable broke and the pump is running wide open all the time. This is a safety feature should the cable break. I suspect ocod is correct either leaky rotary valve seal or crank seals, changing to premix will not cure either problem.
