Hi guys
What are the main spots to check out when you suspect cavatation ? I have to ease the throttle to get going and it maxes out at 35 mph. When I slam it I dont go anywhere just high rpms. Thanks

1) clearance on the impeller to the wear ring. (0.040" max)
2) the seal between the pump and the ride shoe
3) the ride shoe to the hull
4) the drive shaft seal.

You have the old style seal, and it's a bearing with 2 seals. your outer seal can leak, and you will draw air past the front seal, but it may not leak water back into the hull. Also... the boot, or clams can be leaking. (The parts the seal pack is held on with)

Severe cavitation is normally caused by an air leak.

Its been on the lake for a week now and it seems like I can hear it sucking air from the back of the boat somewhere! Is that possible or am I hearing things?
