1995 GTX Cuts Out Stalls Full Throttle

I hadn't replaced my gray fuel lines to date, but after reading so many fuel delivery issues with these lines, I took my PWC to a local guy today to have him swap the lines, clean the carbs and fuel selector switch. She's running well, but better safe than sorry.

Note: As a bit of preventative maintenance, I run a can of Seafoam through my Seadoo at the start of each season. (1/2 can per tank --2 tanks).

Hope you find your issue.

I'm having the same problem with my 98 XP LTD. Have changes all lines and rebuilt carbs. Can this be some kind of electrical problem, safety swith or something?

Sorry for that last post, but this on my 96 GTX. I'm also sorry for the spelling, but I was trying to say is I'm wondering could this problem be a safety switch or something else electrical. I have gone through my fuel system. :ack:

I didn't get mine back together yet but my internal carb filters were so clogged up I have no idea how the thing even ran from idle to 3/4 throttle.

Side note: I bought 10feet of 1/4 gas line tonight and its not enough if you want to keep it the same length as factory. The return line from the carb to the sending unit and the line from the carb to the external fuel filter was right around 9 feet. So I need to get some more tomorrow after work.

I am getting the ez outs tomorrow also. My fingers are crossed I can get these bolts out.

Thanks,

Justin

Another question. Do I need the fuel switch? If so I am going to have to order a new one because I can't get mine unclogged.

Justin

You can actually set up your fuel system to by pass the switch all-together if you don't want to spend the money on the part. If mine doesn't come unclogged I'll either bypass it or continue to run it on reserve.

Sounds good.

Goo-gone cleaned my internal carb filter great. Looks brand new. So I am currently soaking the fuel switch in goo gone. Its unclogged but when you run water through it, it seems to flow better out the reserve side than it does the on side.

But thats better than what is was before when it wouldn't let anything pass through.

Drilling out the carb bolts tonight with the ez out. Hope I can get them out.

Justin

I got the bolts out!! Big relief!

The second carb filter was clogged. I pulled all the jets and they all were open. Advance auto and autozone were both sold out of 1/4 gas line so I will have to go to a different one to get a couple more feet.

I am also going to pick up a couple new bolts for the carb that were stripped out.

With the clean filters this thing should run like a champ. I hope..

Selector Switch

last year I put new motor in a GTX I bought.. I never got it to run right until I by passed the selector switch.. I had put new fuel lines, rebuilt the carbs, new motor and still ran like crap!!!! As soon as I by passed the valve all was good.. I had taken it off cleaned it, blew air through it but there still most have been some corrosin in the vale causing a restricton.. I am currently working on a 95 GTS and this valve is so bad it's got no flow!!! Also check the gasket on the filter under the hood, that could be sucking air if it's crimpt..

Quick update on my 95 GTX:

Although it was working pretty good, I decided to take it to a local mechanic for some preventative maintenance on the Fuel system.

The results were unbelievable. I gained 7-9 MPH and there is no hesitation anywhere. He performed the following:

-Removed and cleaned carbs including replacing the jets.
-Cleaned and fixed the fuel selector switch
-Removed and replaced all gray fuel lines with new hose.

I also decided to have my trailer bearings replaced too. Might as well get it all done at the same time.

The increase in top end gave me a renewed sense of pride in the old girl and I also purchased a bottle of Boat polish and tried to restore some of the original shine. I can safely say she will never be white again, but even a little shine makes a big difference. No new watercraft for me until my kids are too big to tow with this one.
:hurray:

Sweet! I am hoping the same happens for my bike!

So advance auto finally got in some 1/4 gas line. Go figure every autozone and advance was sold out of it. So I have the gas line, new bolts, and clean filters now just need to get it back together.

Going out of town this weekend but looking to get it back in the water and try it by next week/weekend.

before taking off the carbs check the gas shut off valve they have rubber o rings that go bad and plug the holes so at high throttle it will stall or hesitate mine did the same thing and when i took the gas shut off valve off you could see the problem. hope this will help

Its officially back together. Had it running for about 5 minutes to check for leaks and didn't see any. So next step is to get it back out on the water to see if I can go above 3/4 throttle.

I did bypass the fuel switch..

Hello, i am new to the forum but have had my machine for 2 seasons....i believe i am having the same problem, i plan to pull the carb apart and clean it as well as replace the grey hoses and to check the fuel selector however before my seadoo started showing these symptoms i was towing my buddies broken down seadoo back home when it first stalled out....it than was hesitent to start but once started...like the first post it would die when given too much throttle.....anyways my big question is, could the towing have caused this or is it just chance it happened at this time???

same prob

it was fine till my brother flipped it over and it ran upsidedown now cut out had it 2 weeks now all fun time is trouble shoot time please help

similer thing hapend to me took my seadoo out for the first time today worked great for about 20 minuts the hitting small waves started acting like starving for fuel so at full throttle it spit and sputtered worked good then it did it again did this 3 or 4 times then stalled 2 times then wouldnt start it tried to. if i feathered the throttle. but no start. it has good spark dry plug. so i choked it made it worse so towed it back in went home it spit water out the exaust now starts runs out of water but sometimes have to feather the throttle to start it. any help would be appreacieted. already rebuilt carbs compression at 150 and 155 fuel filter clean selector valve clean and i am fustrated because i want to play!!!!!SO PLEASE IF YOU CAN HHEELLPP

Hey Kauff
Let us know how the test run went???

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. The test run went fairly well. It will take gas now but the carbs def needs some more tuning.

What I noticed now:

ALOT of smoke from the exhaust. So I checked the plugs and they are black. When I put the carb back together I set everything to factory specs.

1 1/4 and 1/4. Idle is good. So should I turn the HSA and LSA in a little bit?Or how exactly do you fine tune these things?

Thanks guys!

Turning in richens the fuel.
Turning out leans the fuel.

Be careful not to lean too much, 2 cycle engines do not like "lean."

Good luck.

Yeah good call.

So sounds like I am going to just have to check the plugs out on the water? I'll turn the screws out maybe 1/8 of a turn before I go back out (hopefully tomorrow).

Thanks!

no spark

I have no spark on my seadoo sp 97 since iv'd boost my batterie while it was installed what happened?

Any help appreciated

I have a 2003 GTILE and it was running fine until I tipped it with the motor running still. By the time I righted it the engine was covered with water and it would not run any more. I drained it, changed the plugs, and cleaned the fuel filter. I got it running and it will drive all over the lake fine at 25MPH or less. If I put it to the bar or go 30MPH or over it cuts out and decelerates rapidly. If I leave it on the bar it stalls...if I let off it, it will still run, but when I try to go 30MPH or over the same thing happens again. I took the carburetor off and had it thoroughly cleaned by a professional, which I am not. I put it back in the water and the same thing happened. I don't know where to turn now. Any suggestions?

Marty

Looks like I'm pullin carbs:ack: Are all the stock lines grey, my line from tank to carb is black, maybe changed already? She's an 02 but low hours. Ran excellent before winter

Hey Kauff,
let us know how the carb adjustment goes.
If you can get a post in past all the hijackers. :D

Great day on the water on Saturday. Bike ran great! The plugs are still a little black but it didn't flood out or anything so I'm not sure if I should turn the screws out any more of not.

Going out again this weekend. Thanks again for all your help!

Wrap up
1. Removed the fuel switch
2. Replaced the gas lines
3. Cleaned internal carb filters
4. Cleaned inline filter
