I have a 94 XP with a 720 that keeps blowing exhaust clamps. I broke my second clamp of the season yesterday and am looking for some insight. Pic attached.
I purchased the ski towards the end of the season last year from a neighbor at a very reasonable price. He has a few Sea Doo's and has always taken care of them. He put a brand new 720 in it and the motor has between one and two dozen hours on it, primarily from my use this year.
At the end of the season last year, the clamp snapped. Ordered another one and was set to start the season this year. Snapped another one at the end of June this year, and another yesterday. The clamps keep breaking at the same exact spot, about an inch in from the screw and right on a tack weld.
They blow under regular operation, usually on a choppy day or when there are alot of wakes and boat traffic. I slow down under these conditions and do not beat the snot out of it.
What could be causing this? I'm not willing to believe that it's because the clamps are 20 years old. The ski has brand new motor mounts.
How tight should the clamp be adjusted? Snug, or on the tight side?
Is there an official part number for the clamp? Are they interchanchable with any others? Getting these off Ebay has been a pain. My model is never listed and half of the auctions have the wrong information.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.
