1994 Seadoo SP No spark

Bought a Seadoo SP off someone who said out of nowhere it stopped running about a year an a half ago. Got a brand new battery and was able to confirm starter solenoid and starter is fine because you can hear it try to crank. I got no spark though and have ordered a new coil pack module. Anyone else have any info if the coil pack isn’t the answer?

Completely new to these things. Need to do a compression test next. But I need to figure out the no spark situation first.
 
open up the grey electrical box and look for a black/red wire coming out of the mpem (the potted rectangle). Disconnect that wire and see if you get spark. If you do, you probably need to replace the mpem.

the black/red wire allows the mpem to cut off spark for rev limiting, so you don't want to run the ski with it disconnected.

if disconnecting the black/red wire doesn't give you spark, next thing to look as is the magneto.
 
So I replaced the coil packs but I think the problem comes earlier. Can’t get spark without the rotation of the flywheel which engages the stator which would give power to give spark. I believe it’s a starter issue at this point. The starter cranks but only makes a nasty grinding noise like the bendix isn’t engaging strong enough and it’s just stripping. Just installed a brand new motor and it’s having the same issues so it’s deficiently not the motor.
 
remove the spark plugs and turn the PTO flywheel by hand. If you can't spin it pretty easily, you'll need to figure out why (pistons rusted to cylinders?).

if you can break free/spin the flywheel and the starter still won't crank the engine, take off the front cover and look at the ring gear around the magneto flywheel.

if the engine isn't cranking (magneto flywheel spinning), you won't get current to the coil to make spark.

try to avoid removing the armature assembly behind the magneto flywheel. If you do, mark the position carefully or you'll need a timing light to retime the engine.

if you don't have the shop manual, google for it. It's out there for free download.
 
I have a brand new sbt motor. I don’t think it’s anything todo with the motor. I just think the starter is extremely weak or something. Look at these pictures also
 
the first pic looks like the collar has slipped out to the end of the shaft. Is the spring no longer pushing the pinion gear back all the way toward the motor?

the starter should still crank the engine ... unless the pinion gear can move so far that it pops out the opposite side of the flywheel from the starter motor … but you'd probably get noise from the pinion gear still hitting flywheel teeth if the spring doesn't withdraw it all the way.

have you opened the electrical box and checked all the connections? If the starter motor is not cranking the engine easily ... especially with the plugs out ... have you jumpered the starter solenoid to see if that cranks better?

Keep in mind you can spot weld your jumper to the solenoid posts if you get arcing, so best to do it with the plug wires on the grounding posts instead of the plugs. You do not want the engine to run if you can't immediately disengage the starter.
 
Replaced the starter and it’s cranking. Just not as well as it should. No spark now and oil is posing out of the motor and I have been told it could be the crankseals... brand new motor... lol but yes I did open the electrical box and no I haven’t done that truck but I know how to. Everything is grounded well. I’m about to call in a mobile mechanic to see if he can work his magic. I’m all out of ideas.
 
oil pouring out? From where?

Sounds like a quick look from someone who's familiar with the thing may be best. Keep your eye on costs, tho...it's easy to sink more cash into a ski than it's worth..better off buying another one that is already sorted out.
