My Start Stop Switch went bad. I purchased a used one off of ebay. It works switch wise, but it's like it's backwards. It cranks when it isn't pressed and stops cranking when it is pressed. The switch is normally closed. I thought the old one was too. The switch is the same series as the old one, the wires are different colors. Do i just have the wrong switch? Should it be normally closed or normally open? Any help is appreciated! Thanks, in advance.

Stop switch is normally closed (located on left handlebar)
Start switch is normally open (located by lanyard connection)
Doing the above from memory and the wiring diagram in the maint manual
I have this same model on my project list, but not active at this time, so could take a look if the above does not help

I called it the start stop switch because it does both. It will start and stop the ski. It is located on the left handlebar and it is normally closed. What I call the kill switch is located in the center of the ski by the reverse, gas lever, and choke. It is normally open and closes when the lanyard is connected to the ski. What you are saying is what I am seeing, but with the handlebar switch normally closed it cranks as soon as I put the battery on it. I can get it to crank and run, but I have to hold the handlebar switch in to keep the starter from turning. Is there some way to reverse this? I am lost. I have taken jumpers and put them in line with the handlebar switch. if theyre open it works closing them cranks the ski. Then opening them it will run again, closing them back will stop the ski.

Do you have a wiring diagram? It shows the ground to the starter relay low current side goes first thru the stop switch (normally closed), then through the safety/kill/lanyard switch (normally open, closed with lanyard connected), then thru the starter switch (normally open).

Are you saying the start and stop functions are in one switch? I would need to go look at my ski to see what I have and cannot do that until later today. If on one switch for both start/stop functions it is almost acting like the wires are reversed between NO and NC contacts on the switch .... just a wild-assed guess.

If both starter and stop switch are integrated into one unit, can you post a photo of the front and back of the switch?

Sorry I am not much more help at this point; I am a visual learner and would need to cast my eyeballs on my ski to see what is going on.

I am sure someone else will jump in here and straighten me out.

I don't have a wiring diagram.

Yes, it says Start / Stop on the bar and it does start and stop the engine. I can't get any pic's up right now, but you really couldn't tell much about the switch even if I could. It's just a 2 wire switch, I was told the one I bought would work, but everything I have tested leads me to believe that I have to have a normally open switch on the handlebar. The one i have is normally closed.

I just realized I did a typo on the year, it is a 1996 GTS. I found a wiring diagram and it is supposed to be a normally open switch. It appears I just have the wrong switch. I need NO and not NC. Thanks for your help.
