1993 Seadoo XP - Lanyard beep?

Hey Everyone - finally got my ‘93 XP back together and running today! Stupid question, isn’t it supposed to beep when A) you insert lanyard or B) it overheats? I haven’t overheated it thankfully lol but it definitely doesn’t beep with the ‘key’ on. It doesn’t bother me but I’m just worried the buzzer is broken and that if I did overheat one day I wouldn’t be alerted. Or maybe the beep is only a newer seadoo thing? Thanks!

I don't... think so? My 1996 GTS never beeped when I put the lanyard on. Either its beeper was also not working or they're not designed to. I don't know anything about beeping during overheat.

1995 and earlier (and 1996 GTS and GTI?) don't have the DESS key but the regular push button deadman cutoff like previous years.

My 1996 GTX (has DESS) does beep when the lanyard is inserted.

Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can jump in and correct anything that I've said that's wrong.

No that makes sense. Being pre-DESS maybe it just doesn’t beep.

The shop manual for 93's lists an overheating warning device as standard equipment for the XP. It also shows a buzzer connected in parallel with the stop switch and shows a buzzer on the schematics. My guess would be it is the same or similar buzzer used on other models just like all 96 models. You could probably find its location by using the shop manual. I would check behind the panel where the stop switch is mounted. On the 96 models it is located under the handlebar covering. I would also guess that it would beep when the lanyard is installed even pre DESS.

You can also test the buzzer by disconnecting and grounding the wire that goes to the temperature sensor mounted on top of the engine by the spark plugs. Do that while the engine is running and the buzzer should sound. If its not working it should be replaced.

The two beeps when installing the key is a DESS feature.

No two beeps on that 93, never had it so don't worry about it.

If you hear that beeper you're overheating the motor, that's its only function.

Push the start button then ground the connector lead on top of the cylinder head within 30 seconds it should alarm. Very important, your jet pump clogs with weeds and it overheats real quick.
