Hello smart people :). I just got a 1993 SPX. Totally new to this. We took it out for first time and we were told there was no key but to just press the 2 buttons. It cranks and accelerates but then stops. Is this due to no key? I have a feeling we were lied to by the seller. He said he rode it the day before with no key. Comments welcome. Thank you !

One of those two buttons on the "dash" is a starter button, the other is a "dead man" switch.

The dead man switch needs to be pressed in all the time you are riding the machine. Do you have the tether cap for it?

When you say it accelerates did you actually run it in the water, or just have it rev up as you started it?

Thank you so much for replying! I bought a tether cap today. We did have it on the water. It revved a little then quit each time.
