Hi everyone, I thought I'd start a thread about the resurrection of a ski not seen a lot anymore: a 1992 XP. I realize this isn't the most desirable of the XP models, but for some reason I've always loved the color scheme and the graphics on these. I also like the way they look. Since they aren't very common anymore, I never thought I would actually find one.
About 3 months or so ago, we were down at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri hunting for a double jetski trailer for my other skis. Our last stop was this marina that I've never been too. When we pulled up, it was like heaven: dozens and dozens of parts skis in a field behind the shop of all makes-Polaris, Tigershark, Seadoo...even found a WetJet back there! At any rate, I was looking at the trailers sitting there and when I turned around, I found myself staring at the 92 XP I now own.
She was in sad, sad shape. No pump, no electronics, no carbs, locked up engine, absolutely FILTHY with about 6 inches of dead leaves and mold in the hull...I'LL TAKE IT! lol. We came back the next week and I handed over $100 for the ski and title, which turned out to be original from 1992.
Got it home and started taking it apart. The top end of the engine turned out to be like new. I'm waiting to get the rest of the engine torn down to inspect the crank and go from there. The cases-so far-show much promise; the rotary valve cover looks like new, but the valve itself is rusty.
My future brother-in-law turns 14 this year so he can legally drive a ski next season. He's taken the safety course already and has also become quite attached to this ski. He's spent many hours after school and on the weekends the last couple weeks cleaning it. It's much, much better than it used to be!
I found a gentleman on a facebook seadoo page that is sending me everything I need to finish the ski except an engine for $100+ shipping. I may need a crankshaft (and yes I know nick probably has one so no need to bombard me with that information), but otherwise there is a chance it could see water this season!
I'll be sure to ask questions and post updates. All I have are a couple pictures from when we picked it up and got it home. When the storms pass, I'll go outside and take pictures of inside the hull as it sits now.
