The engine will just cut out after 25 seconds of running. Doesn't matter hot or cold, wide open or idle. It just shuts off. All I have to do is just press the starter button and it starts running again any throttle setting like it never shut off. But in another 25 seconds +/- 1 second it shuts off again and this repeats itself. I am thinking it is the safety switch messing up but I just wanted to see if anyone here has seen this before. It idles perfect and accelerates perfect and it runs at wide open for the 25 seconds. New gas , old gas doesn't change it. New plugs are in it.

Thanks for any response.

If you have timed it over and over...it happens in the water or out...I believe there is something failing in the MPEM If it was something else it would not be a consistent 25 sec every time.

The 92s had a really crappy MPEM in it they quickly updated...I wonder if one of the relays, which is the crappy part the changed, is the failing part. Ive got a set availabile if you wanna try it before buying an MPEM.

the 93-94 580 MPEMs are a much better choice and will swap right in if you end up replacing it. Im out of them but my bro has a couple.

agree with above if very abrupt cut out

If it starves out, even if very quickly, I would lean toward fuel system. Gray fuel lines? Fuel filter. fuel pump. fuel selector. Even stopping for a short period will allow enough fuel in the system to run for another short period.

I have seen this "starve out" where fuel tanks are not vented properly.

I agree with Nick, that relay is most likely cause. Any break or spike into an mpem will shut off the internal timer.

Thanks for your input guys, It was the MPEM as the culprit, ordered a new one installed and runs like a sewing machine!

Thanks again.
