Hi all. New to this forum! I have just acquired a 1991 Seadoo SP. Rotax engine 580cc
Will only be using for a bit of fun, but I have a question regarding oil. Does this engine not have gear oil? Is it fed from the 2 stroke oil? Same tank?

Also, anything I would need to know about these, any 'gotcha's'?

Hi all, can anybody help with this ?

The oil feeds the rotary valve and the engine. The larger lines are the rotary valves lines that just make a loop to lubricate the rotary valve.

2-strokes don't use crankcase oil, they get lubrication from oil injection, or premix, plus in a rotax 580 lubrication is provided through a drip feed to the rotary valve.

You can Download the repair manual on the Internet. Read it and, answer many of your questions.

Ya, I got one of those (or maybe 2).

Oil tank is smaller upper tank (use proper oil, not standard outboard oil ... do not know what you have there). The oil tank feeds the oil pump on the intake under the carb. Output from the oil pump goes thru 2 small output lines to the rotary valve cover (what the carb connects to); oil lubes the rotary valve and mixes with the gas from the carb. This assumes a stock setup where the oil pump is in play; some have disabled the oil feed system and mixed the oil in the gas (premix).

Check compression to give you an indication of basic engine health.

If in storage for a while, you need to clean up the fuel system ... lots of threads here on that.

Hi All!

Well, I got this all back together and fired it up (Well sort of!). Engine runs to a fashion.....
So, Engine starts and then dies - Cleaned carb and adjusted and now I can have it running and if I have the high speed screw wound all the way in. When running I need to keep the throttle fully open in order to keep it going.
Fuel pump is working fine and sure it is just carb adjustment

Can anyone confirm the low speed screw - 1 1/4 turns out?
Where would people start from in order to try and get adjusted properly?

I think ideally I could do with a new carb, but these seem quite expensive and just want to get running in the first instance - reluctant to get a carb rebuild kit if a) unsure 100% it's that and b) could other parts in the carb be knackered?

Thoughts please?

Sounds like you still have something wrong with the carb. You need to rebuild it with a Genuine Mikuni kit and new needle and seat. On a stock ski the stock settings work 100% of the time. No reason to adjust them from that, if you do something is wrong.

I will had deliver one and pay for it if you cover my airfare. Other than that I am not sure.

Heck, I will even install it for you.

You may want to check the compression, as Rod suggested. Around or below 120psi you're looking at an engine rebuild.
