Welcome to the forum, and the addiction.

Now, before you get into the ski, cut the grass and fix the flat on the Miata. Both will be neglected from here on out since you have a ski in your life. LOL

LOL! The grass guy finally made it out Saturday. I'm hoping to have the new clutch and transmission re-installed this weekend.

well, if your name isn't Rob, I know what the first project on my to do list would be. LOL

The mpem, buzzer, and starter are all bad. We also found water in the bottom-end of the motor. I got as much water out as I could and used a drill to spin the motor to check compression. Compression showed 150 on the magneto cylinder and 146 on the pto cylinder.

If there was any water in the bottom end the crank is shot. THe bearings will get surface rust on them and explode within a few minutes of running and destroy the cases. You would be best off splitting the cases and checking it out.

BTW: Nice score, at $150 you got a nice stand and a free XP.

Time to give this thread an update as this X4 has a new owner- ME!

I am in need of some parts on one of my builds (that I haven't updated in forever), so when I found this on Craigslist I couldn't pass it up. I'm not sure what my plans are for it all yet. As clean as the hull is, I'm debating a motor swap of some kind and getting this thing back on the water, though only time and money will decide that. For now, the ski is getting shoved in the garage until I'm back home for Christmas Break.

After much debate on what to do with this ski I've decided on a motor swap, a 65U Yamaha 1200 NPV motor to be exact. Based on my research, I've only found 1 other swap like this ever started, but it wasn't finished. I have a $300 GP1200 sitting in storage that I'll use as a donor and based on some rough measurements the 1200 will fit.

Build thread to come in a few months.

Status of build?

I haven't had time to touch this one yet. I'm planning to strip the GP hull in the next few weeks and at that point I'll spend a little bit of time setting the motor in the hull to know if it's even a feasible swap. Something that actually resembles real progress is a ways off since I still have 2 skis in my personal fleet that need rebuilding.

Atleast you have weather that does not get damn cold for 4 months. Without heat in the garage, in Ohio, your done till spring.
