DESS not communicating
Bad DESS connection or wrong lanyard key.
The gauges will come to life even if you put the wrong key on it, they will also come to life for 33 seconds if you press the start button with the lanyard off which tests your start button function.
One beep = mpem does not recognize the key's embedded security code. You will need to take the ski
to a dealer or pwc shop who has a "BUDS" programmer. Try cleaning the key & post with a pencils eraser, and remove the dess post from the consul for examination of the wires for kinks and breakage.
check the four wireing points that are under the post. An MPEM can hold 7 key's codes in its ROM.
Did you check your 15A fuse in the rear black box for corrosion? that fuse supplies the MPEM it's main power. You should check the fuse holder as well, and clean & Dielectric grease all wire connectors.
A DESS switch has a 4 way connector up under the dash, if the terminals are corroded, or the switch is bad, the mpem never reads the lanyard code. This will block out the function of the starter switch to activate the solenoid in the coil box, as well as any spark from the now dead ignition.
