05 RXP Tough accelerating / crunching type noise

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum! Looks like a great thing you all have going here and I hope to become a regular contributor. I'm pretty new to seadoo but am hoping to learn as much as possible.

I have a 2005 RXP with 78 hours on it. Just recently it's been accelerating pretty slow and has a crunching type noise that comes along with the slow acceleration. Once the ski planes it seems to run fine. I rolled it on it's side and checked for anything that could be blocking the grate and also for any damage to the impeller. I didn't notice either of those. I have read that it could be a problem with the wear ring... However I didn't expect there would be a crunch type noise but just the slow acceleration. Any ideas what could be causing this? 05 rxp Supercharger

I have changed 5 or 6 superchargers this year already that had the same problem you are explaining,there is a kit you can get,to check the supercharger, start the machine on the trailer and hold your hand on the supercharger intake hose than squeeze the throttle, it will swell up pretty hard with acceleration ,you can feel it with your hand, the noise is probably the gear spinning on the double ring gear in the rear of the engine,the ceramic washers are a problem with the 04 to 06 superchargers, and all are now recommended to be rebuilt at 100 hours,even though the current seadoo is using titanium washers.

Hey thanks for the quick reply! I'll get it up on the trailer this weekend and check that out. If that is the problem do you think it will be best to just get it serviced? If I'm understanding correctly the supercharger needs to be rebuilt? Thanks again!

DO NOT start the ski if you think its a supercharger failure... To check for a failure pull the hose off the charger and try and spin the impeller, If it spins then its blown. Reason you dont want to start it is if the washers did fail they end up going all through the motor and wreck the oil pumps. If the washer failed the motor will HAVE to be removed torn down and cleaned. If a super charger fails you want to minimize the amount of time you run it, long it runs the more damage that will occure. What are your RPM's at WOT???

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty new to everything so just to be clear WOT means wide open throttle right? If that's the case i'm not sure because it seemed to run fine once I planed so I wasn't paying much attention. During the initial acceleration it just has a grinding / crunch type sound and seems to struggle. Does this sound like a supercharger issue to you? I can do that test you recommended tomorrow sometime and let you know. Thanks again for the help and I apologize for my ignorance on the subject. I hope to learn a lot!

Hey no problem were here to help and your correct, WOT mean wide open throttle. If the supercharger is blown you most likely wont see your rpm's at WOT more then 6500. Its very easy to test and see if it's blown so you should rule that out first.

I know my RPMS's were definitely over 6500 and I'm pretty sure they were actually over 8000 WOT. Could it still be the sc just slowly going? Or do they work until they die? I wasn't able to get it out of the water today to completely test the charger. I do have the extended warranty so if I just take it to a dealer is it likely something this would be covered?
