My buddy had my ski out for about 20 min. while I was on the boat and he called me saying the RXP was broke. I arrived and started the ski up, it smoked real bad, and sputtered. It didn't sound good, so I just took it home. It was running just fine until it failed. What are some possible problems or further troubleshooting ideas? I refuse to take it to my horrible dealer in Savannah GA, so I will fix it on my own. Any and all help is appreciated!

Did your buddy tip it over?? I have seen a few RXPs smoke and sputter after being tipped....but they were fine after a few mins of running.

I think I know your problem...

Buddies dont respect your ski as much as you do and he flipped it, or rode it like it was a rental

Pull the plugs and turn over to check for water intrusion.

:agree: check the motor for any traces of water, pull the dip stick and see what the oil looks like. Is yours supercharged? if so check the super charger to make sure its ok ...the more things you can rule out the better....

Its the supercharged model, no water on the dipstick, and just barely any oil either... How would I check the supercharger? By spinning the impeller?

Ive flipped it a few times with no problems...especially not like this. Is it easy to do the compression test myself?

what kind of oil do you use? theres 2 kinds mineral oil and synthetic... if use syn oil it can wreck the ceramic washers in the supercharger. and yes very easy to do a compression test.

If its the supercharger the seadoo should still run ok but with a sharp decline in performance.

An easy way to tell if the supercharger is blown is a severe decline in acceleration and a drop in the max RPMs the engine will achieve. It is definately something that you would notice....I have seen a few blown chargers and never any smoke or engine sputters...just a big drop in performance. One buddy kept riding all day with a blown charger....no real difference except he was much slower than me

In no way am I saying that riding with a blown charger is a good idea....I would actually say its a bad one....he didn't seem to care though!

I would look at the plugs first and honestly ask your buddy what he did so you can get a better idea of why this is happening. I am still saying it was flipped....since he is not a seadoo owner it prob took him a long time to get it back over and thus the smoke!

Hope this helps!

Ill check the compression, my rxt had a bad sc and it was just slow, not like my rxp. He didn't flip it, he was just riding it full throttle the couple miles back to the dock to pick up a friend, no spins or flips... I have no idea what oil the dealership uses...Illl check. It leads me to believe its a blown piston ring or something that makes it burn oil like it looks like it is. Thanks for all your help.

Well, looks like the number 2 cylinder is fried, the spark plug looked like it was over temped and when I replaced the plug, the engine still runs bad and smokes blue smoke pretty bad...looks like Ill have to replace the engine, or get it rebuilt by Sea-doo....im crying right now. Should I go with the SBT built engine or are there any other options?
