Hello,
How do I tell if this 4Tec is supercharged? I've attached three pictures and tagged what I think might be the supercharger w/ a piece of yellow paper on the second & third pictures. View is looking into the engine hatch from the port side.

What is the 4-inch diameter black tube sticking up, open on the end? This tube sucks in air, but shouldn't there be an air filter attached at the open end? Thanks.

I'm in the air, 34,000 feet. Can't open the pics right now for some reason.

Did you get an engine size?

Thanks CoastieJoe. I assume it's the 155HP, 1500cc, 4Tec that came stock with the '04 Sportster 4Tec. The seller claimed that the engine is a rebuilt w/ supercharger. I'm not sure I see a supercharger on there, but I'm not exactly sure what it would look like.

There is nothing where the supercharger goes in those pictures. Non SC it is.

155 engine isn't SC'd.

So if that is accurate as well as the picture not showing a SC, then I would say no SC'r.

Thanks gents. Nonetheless, it flys! What is that black rubber 4-inch intake tube sticking up? Is it correct the way it is or does ot need a filter affixed at the intake opening?

Non-SC air intake is at the rear right of engine looking from the back of boat. Post 2008 just had a filter (looks like a cylindrical CAI filter) clamped at the end of the pipe - earlier models I believe had a filter box. My 2008 non-SC (from memory) has no pipe sticking up where yours is. Does no look right un capped/filtered to me!

I'm not even sure in 2004 there was a SC motor option for the sportster. Only 2005+

Also I thought earlier sportsters had a black and silver engine cover, instead of the all black in the picture. I think all clues point that this was an engine swap.

What we're looking at most likely after a closer look on a larger laptop screen (not my phone this time) that there is a SC. However by the looks of all the hose clamps and J pipe it appears to be a backyard bubba swap of a SC motor into a 155hp hull.

I see the supercharger clear as day...........

Thanks pwgsx. Yep, that's it. There was some confusion since the '04 Sportster did not offer the SC option. My Sportster had the original 155HP non-sc motor replaced with a rebuilt 155hp sc. It looks like a little bit of a hatchet job, but the boat seems to run very well. I had it out for a couple of hours today - Jan. 2, 1013 - sunny, blue skies, & 85 degrees on the east coast of FL!

My 08 Speedster 155 spins 7340 rpm and went 51 mph, if yours could spin around 7900 rpm or more then your Sportster is powered by the supercharged engine.
