I am attempting to replace the impeller on my 2004 GTX,I have the shop manual but still had a question. Is it critical to press out the impeller shaft from pump housing? i assume that step is only if you want to replace the bearings right? any other tips would be a huge help!

When I replaced my impeller and wear ring on my 2006 GTX I did not remove the impeller shaft from the pump housing. I believe you are correct that you would only do this if you were wanting to replace the bearings.

You don't have to remove the shaft to replace your impeller. But, most people do use this time to inspect, measure and re-grease the pump while it's all open.

When you replace the impeller, make sure you have enough grease in the unit, then make sure your nose cup is full. Thats about all there is to it. That is what I like about the 4 stroke pumps, grease, not oil.... Cheers!
