Hey guys just bought a 02 Seadoo RXDI with 80 hours on it for a good deal and took it to the lake for the first time last weekend and it rode good but noticed it would only top out at about 40mph. It has not been run in a long time so curious why it is down on top speed? I pulled the plugs last night and they looked pretty dirty/black so I put new plugs in and will fill it with fresh gas tonight. The MAINT light was coming on and off when running it around last weekend as well. Any ideas on what it could be? Can this all be related to bad or old plugs?

LOL, a DI that isn't running correct. Not laughing at you but we have gotten a ton of these lately. The DI is a great ski "when it is running". They are hard to diagnose and have some real weaknesses.

You are going to have to see if it is fuel pressure related as they have to have exactly 107 psi to run correct or voltage related as they need perfect 12+ volts to run.

Having said that new plugs can't hurt anything. Make sure you use the exact NGK ZFR4F-11 plugs.

Yea I bought the correct plugs and installed them last night but have not hooked it up to a hose and run it yet. The carbon seal and wear ring have been replaced as well. How can I check fuel pressure and voltage? Kind of new to skis overall.

The only way the check fuel pressure is to make a test adaptor. For voltage a standard multimeter on the battery will work. You should test battery at rest, cranking, idling and revving to about 4,000 and record your results. It should never drop below 12V or go higher than 14.5V.

So i hooked the ski up to a hose last night and ran it and the MAINT light kept flashing and it said low 12V. What could that be? Is that the reason for the low top speed?

I can't say for sure but a DI ski needs very good voltage. It could be a weak battery or a voltage regulator going out. You need to check if with a volt meter on the battery and see what it is at rest, cranking, idle and 4,000 rpm.

The battery is brand new so probably not that. I will test with a voltmeter and report back.

I wouldn't be so sure, I have seen quite a few brand new cheap batteries do this, especially the Walmart NeverStarts.

So I took the voltmeter and tested the battery and had 12.5v with the key on and I decided to look at the rectifier and found something shocking!!!! There is no rectifier plugged into my ski. See [pics

This has to be the cause of the maint light and the low 12v light right? I only ran the ski once since buying it this way, and it has been in limp mode. Can this cause any major issues or damage to the ski?

LOL looks like you found your maintenance light problem. Do yourself a favor and purchase a new one from the dealer. OEM is the only way to go.

Just for future reference a poor/non functioning fuel pump will not throw a code. I have seen this a lot lately where a DI ski maint light is on and the first thing people want to do is pull the fuel pump. Maint light is electrical not fuel.

Good luck.

Is running with ski with no rectifier going to damage any other electrical components? I only took the ski out once and barely ran it.

No it will not harm. You were running on the battery only. That is why the maint 12 volt alarm was engaged.

Cool I will buy a rectifier and report back. Any tips on where to get one for a good price? I looked on eBay and they have plenty of options but not sure on quality. What about a used OEM one vs a new aftermarket one?

Dealer or click on the Sea-Doo parts icon at the top of this page. They are not cheap, but worth it.

Got the voltage regulator in and it ran great on Friday. got into the low 60mph top speed range with no warning lights.
