Well, this ski, 02 GTXDI, has been sitting in storage for 3 yrs. Bought it new and put 146 hours on it. I brought it down to Florida a couple a weeks ago. Changed the fuel out, new battery and new plugs. I kept up on regular maintenance prior to that. I remember the last thing I did before storage was replacing the filter on the fuel pump. Anyway I took it for a ride yesterday, up to around 30 mph, 4900 rpms, a mile into the trip and it bogged down and would restart intermittently enough to get back to shore. I intend on replacing the inline filter above the fuel tank. I have no lights or warning messages. I brought it back to the house and it started and idled like nothing happened. I believe its some sort of fuel problem. Any input would be welcomed to go from here. .

Keep in mind there are two filters in the tank. one is on the bottom of the fuel module and one is on the bottom of the pump inside of the module.

Thanks, yes I replaced both. I think its a fuel starvation problem, wondering if the pump is going. I know the top inline has never been replaced, I am waiting for that to be delivered. I know the raves are clean, I never have messed with the injectors to see if the screens have debri in them.

Best bet is to check fuel pressure. The DI's run a complicated fuel injection system that relies on air pressure from the onboard air pump. If either the fuel pump (most common) or the air pump are not operating correctly, you will not see correct fuel pressure and it will not run right.

Thanks, looks like what I need. What should the pressure be at?

Fuel pressure should be 27 psi plus or -2 psi when installing lanyard. 107 psi plus or minus 2psi when cranking The engine with the starter or with the engine running.

Those DI pumps unfortunately have metal roller vanes, and therefore after time, are susceptible to rust forming internally, and then failing, drawing too much current,,setting off the 12 volt maintenance code..It is a factory mistake for any DI owner.

Thanks for the info guys! I will have to check pressures and go from there. Any brand pump you recommend?

I was looking at the OEM, evidently you have to buy the whole pump kit for around $964. For my ski. You just can’t buy the pump.

You need to make a rigging to check fuel pressure. Before purchasing a pump try cleaning your OEM pump first by letting it self clean by letting it run in a 50-50 mixture of gas and toluene for an hour or two. If you don’t have any luck with that purchase a good used OEM pump off of Jess or Nick atWestside Powersports

Thanks, I’ll be checking it and going from there. What power source do you use to run in the solution? 12vdc but fused?

I know I am getting a little ahead of myself but just looking at other options if I have to buy a pump. I called Westside powersports like suggested and they want $475 for a used pump, out of a used seadoo they are getting later in the week. I saw this on EBAY and they claim they are SeaDoo Forum approved. Has anyone used this supplier?

Yes a 12 V battery. Of course I did it outside nowhere near a building and had probably 15 feet of wire between the fuel pump and the battery. No I did not have it fused but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
I cleaned The fuel pumps on both of my DI skis using the above method just as a preventative measure. What I did was pull the fuel pump out of the fuel pump module. The discharge end of the fuel pump is threaded 3/8”-24 which is the same as a 3/8 inch national fine bolt. I Took a 3/8 national fine bolt by three-quarter inches long and drilled a 3/16 hole in the center of it on a lathe.you could do it on a drill press if you don’t have a latthe, or with a hand drill. Anyway I welded a compression fitting that accepted 5/16 inch steel or copper tubing onto the head of the bolt that I drilled out to 3/16 inch.I put a 5/16 inch steel fuel line on the compression fitting and came out a couple inches and then Bent it back to a U-shape so the 50-50 cleaning solution would return itself back into the container I was using which was a number 10 tin can (basically a 3 quart tin can). Also just so you know the 3/8”-24 thread size is the same as One of the common sizes of an Automotive brake line “tube nut“
That accepts a 3/16 inch steel brake line. I also made up a piece using this tube nut with the 3/16 inch line but I didn’t really care for it because the 3/16 obviously is way more restricted and was coming out of the pump with more force and created more air bubbles when it entered back into the cleaning solution so I went back to using the 5/16 inch line and that worked very nicely.I let it self clean probably two hours. One word of caution and that is don’t cover the fuel pump while it is running. When I was cleaning one of my pumps it was lightly raining outside so I figured I did not want water in the cleaning solution so I covered it with a 5 gallon bucket and bottom line after running about two hours covered with a 5 gallon bucket it actually discolored the grass which I don’t care about that but the fuel pump was very hot I could hardly touch it. Luckily the fuel pump still works fine. Good luck.

I have tried a quantum pump and it didn't produce enough pressure to start the engine. When I called them, they were very accommodating and sent another pump. I had the same problem with that one. Long story short, I have 3 brand new Quantum pumps in my garage that will not start my DI.
That being said, I have read here that some folks bought one and have many hours on it.

What fuel pressure were you getting with the three pumps that did not start your ski?

@hfgreg Can we go after these guys? It is definitely not Forum approved.

I think the first one was 12 or 15 psi with the key in. I never checked when turning over and as I said it never started. I didn't check the pressure right away and thought I had a problem other than the fuel pump especially after installing 3 Quantums. Weren't you one of the guys that had success with the Quantum?
