Just finished installing the engine in a new to me machine. Edit: 02 gtx 155 4 tech.
Had a very hard time to get it to start. Fuel rail was removed and drained and the fuel pump module replaced.
It finally started after I opened the test port mid way in the line and purged it a few times.
Got lots of air and bubbles and then fuel. I was just pressuring the line with the key on and them releasing the pressure. Would not kick or start otherwise.
Cranked a bit more and it finally kicked and started but was rough.

Weird part is that it idles fine, full throttle is fine, as in punch it to full and it will rev. But try to smoothly rev it up and it sputters and hesitates. If if hit the throttle fast to 1/2 it doesn't accelerate but as I'm letting go it picks up a bit.
I can feather the throttle a bit and get it to start picking up rpm. Try to hold a steady 1/4 throttle and its rough, let go and it dies. restarts and idles fine.

Since the manifold was drained do I have to get rid of the air bubble in it ? I'm guessing the problem I have is the air bubble and not a hydraulic pressure. Therefore no real pressure pushing fuel at the actual injectors. or there's is a small amount but a big air pocket above it.

Should I just remove the last injector with the line tilted up and touch the key to run the pump and purge out all the air ? or is there a way to do this?
