On my 2002 gtx 4-tec there is a buzzing noise coming from the mpem, I have check all the wires, took all the negatives and cleaned.. i cleaned everything!

I have been researching this problem and everyone says its a bad ground wire it seems like but Ive checked them, also it only buzzes when the lanyard is off, I tried charging the battery, still buzzing, it starts right up no problem so I never did think it was the battery.. I took all the fuses out one by one to check and buzzing never went away.

The only way to stop the buzzing is disconnect battery or insert lanyard and it goes away..

Any suggestions?

This is my first ski, Im pretty mechanically inclined.. haha so I thought! Until I started trying to learn this machine and how it operates.. I'm starting to figure things out.. but this has me stumped.

Buzzing is a vague term. Do you mean the fault beeper is sounding or do you mean you hear a buzzing like a relay is chattering? Does it drain the battery if ignored? Have you seen any fault codes by pressing the set button 5 times while it is happening?

This is just a guess but try unplugging the TOPS. It's a protection switch next to the mpem. There is another thread on down the page a little that has a great picture of it. I know you have no codes but I wondered if it might buzz before it dies. It's right next to the mpem so it might be what you hear. It's just something easy to rule out and much cheaper if it's the problem.

Anything conclusive on this? I have an 05 GTX that is doing exactly the same thing. It does drain the battery while it buzzes. Engine starts and runs properly. Just doesn't seem to release the power relay in the mpem when its supposed to, and starts buzzing instead.

sorry 06

Are you both sure the MPEM is grounded properly? It's got to be a connection issue somewhere. Re-check and clean all your connections

This happened to my friend when he was removing/reinstalling the engine, he forgot to attach the 2 grounds and the MPEM made a faint buzzing noise.

If you find your issues, can you please let me know,I’m having the same exact issue

On my particular machine, I needed a new ECU because it had a DESS issue anyway. I bought a used ECU and it didn’t give me that same issue with the MPEM relay buzzing, and I’ve since had it reprogrammed and the DESS embedded by Torx Racing, I no longer have that issue. A buddy’s machine that I had been swapping parts with also did that buzzing, with his ECU, which otherwise works fine. I’m hoping to check that one out again and see if that it is the ECU. The other common issue we had was bad displays that had been demolished by the sun, and the relay did actually click off the one time when that plug was unplugged. I have new displays coming so I’ll let you all know if that makes a difference. A dirty pin on the ECU is my other hope, because I know the wiring in the rest of the machine wasn’t the issue on mine, seeing as a new ecu solved it. Worst case is an issue inside the ecu. For the $700 ish dollars I’d just put a battery switch in, if that’s the case.
