00 rx cutting out at high rpm

Ok so I rebuilt the top end and carb this last week. And it still cuts out at full throttle and will hardly go over 15 mph. I pull the plugs today and they look like it's running rich. The plugs have oil on the I can clean them off and it would run better but still cut out. I'm really getting tired of throw $ at this damn thing!!!!!

Howdy. From what I'm reading, you DEFINITELY need new spark plugs. Spark plugs can do 3 things: Make your rig not run, make your rig run bad, or make your rig run the way its designed to. You should change the plugs on a two stroke boat often. If you didn't buy and install the plugs in your boat, then you should buy a 4 stroke boat.

When you did the topend and sealed it back up did you do a leak down test. That hole in the pulse line would cause an air leak. Also if a crank seal is bad it will burn the motor down. Causing lean condition. I made my own leak down tester. I do it every spring on my seadoo and my sled. Two yrs ago my 670 ski doo was cutting out at high rpm and found the crank seal to be bad. Caused the same thing as your motor. Burned the mag side down. I would def do a leak down if it doesnt hold like 5psi for 10min then you have an air leak somewhere. Also when you rev it up does the idle hang high and then slowly come down to idle or does it come down immediately and go to idle rpm?

the rpm's come right back down. I will have to give that a try. What should I make sure holds pressure? The pulse or threw the head. Iv done a leak down test on a car but not a ski.. Thanks for the help.

You have to seal off at the carbs and the exhaust outlet. Pump air into motor. Only 5psi if you go like to ten or higher you have achance of blowing a seal out. Have a low psi gauge hooked up and see it it holds pressure for at lest 10 minutes. I take pics of what i did when i get home

I did a compression test today and it is 140-136 so I think I'm good there. I pull the plugs and they look like it's running rich. What would cause it to run rich at 1/2 to full throttle

I would check the oil pump and make sure it set properly.
Carb pop off pressure set correctly?
When you rebuilt the top end, were the reed valve petals sitting flat against the cage?

The pop off pressure is set right but one thing I didn't do when I took them apart was pull the high and low speed adjusters out and clean the passages. I also didn't pull the reed's when I rebuilt the top end. I'm going to pull the carb off and check those while I have it off.

Ok so I cleaned it all out again. And it's still cuts out at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Im about to give up and find a shop. Dose anyone know of a good shop in nor cal that can take a look at it..

I pulled the carb off again and went threw it and this time I pulled the stator cover off and it has a lot of oil in it and the spring from the seal was stuck to the stator. I have a few questions. Can I change the seal without splitting the cases and could that cause it to run lean on they cylinder??

If your stator is not supposed to be in a bath of oil, and it is, then you might have found the problem. Pull the stator stuff off with a puller, and attempt to pull the seal out. It will most likely be removable without splitting the cases. The stator could be shorting out, and causing a misfire at higher RPMs. Maybe. .. . . .

No, on a 951 the front seal can't be replaced without splitting the cases.

It is not like the 787 where the front seal is pressed into the front MAG housing.
