94 SP - Starter cranks for a sec then whirs. PITA starting. Bendix?

I ended up taking the starter out, cleaned it, polished all the connection, checked the brushes, polished the commutator, greased the bendix shaft, and put it back together. I'm bench testing it with a 50amp battery changer/starter. I apply voltage, it spins, bendix comes out then bendix goes...

94 SP - Starter cranks for a sec then whirs. PITA starting. Bendix?

Title says it all - One of my skis has always been cranky (no pun intended). It usually would only crank for a second or 2, then just spin the starter, almost as if the bendix only wanted to help out for a revolution or so. I would have to what for the spin to die completly down to try again...

94 SP: Starting fine, but stop buttons not working

I have a weird one. The ski won't start without the lanyard attached, nor will it start with the stop button pressed (starter doesn't turn over in either case). Ski starts and runs, but once it is started the lanyard and stop button have no effect. I currently have to stop it with the choke...

    Weird start issues....

I have 2 1994 SPs, each with it's own quirky issues. First one just occasionally will only click. That's easy - I figure selenoid. Rest of the time it's fine. The other only cranks for a few seconds and then whirs. I have to let the whir die down before I can crank again. If I had to...

    580 motor into 96 xp?

I have 1994 sp that is running good, but the hull has some damage. I recently ended up with 2 old jet skis, one of which is a 1996 xp that is intact except for the motor. The DESS works fine, and it has a new wear ring and impeller from the look of things. I was thinking of taking my motor...

Just got first PWC - non running 94 SPs in pieces. Wee!

Hmm. The carb kits are 'winderosa' but seem to have all the specific buts (red dot on diaphraphm, etc). Am I going to regret things shortly? Oy, these carbs are a pain to get back in. Grey fuel lines are fairly stiff, but I don't see any green goo....why do I have the feeling I'll be...

Just got first PWC - non running 94 SPs in pieces. Wee!

I am no stranger to technical work - boats, antique mopeds, cars of all vintages, old outboards. I was feeling brave and pulled home 2 94 SPs with the carbs removed and a box of parts. The story checks out - guy and friends went in on them, run them around, guys buddied let him do all the work...
