WSM new vs Sea Doo rebuilt 951 crankshaft

I know WSM cranks went up $30 over what I as paying for new cranks. Probably because they stopped making some OEM crankshafts.

Which is better and why? They are ABOUT the same price. Any info would be appreciated. THANKS!

How well rebuilt oem is the question... usually superior quality but up to the person putting it together and depends on the quality of the parts.

However I've been using wsm and even hot rod cranks lately.

Wsm cranks combined with wsm pistons are matched pretty close ballance wise. And I haven't sen one fail. I've seen counterballance bearings fail more often then cranks.
Wsm cranks are made in Taiwan, bearings have steel races, fit and finish are great. Not sure how they would handle severe abuse and modifications. But stock is pretty good.

Hotrod cranks are better balanced from what I was told but I don't know how well it's balanced to other piston manufacturers.

What it comes down to is... who is the better salesman. No one is ever going to test the crankshafts and and as Mekanix states... depends on who is assembling the engine. I'll take new over rebuilt but I'll soon be purchasing rebuilt crankshafts. The cost savings will be worth the extra BS of shipping. I like WSM because I can throw my crank away. :) Quality??? You'd have to go real deep into the parts and even the people building the cranks. No one is perfectly consistant and even new cranks can be defective. The people building them are not always highly skilled so.... you're always buying a "pig in a poke." and betting/hoping you made a good choice. I can get WSM dropped shipped and have it at my house in 3 days. I don't pay shipping so.... I like that. :) Very convenient which has value in itself. Good Luck. I don't think you'll be wrong either way.

So, whichever one I buy, as long as this guy isnt doing the work, I should be ok!

The decision is easy, the OEM ones aren’t available anymore.
The best would be to have your OEM crank rebuild by one of the best like Competative Crankshafts.

Stay away from SES and FullBore as they are not delivering on promises especially return times, literally months and months late.

I called Fullbore and they said they would have the engine ready in the SPRING! Wow! It is a good sign when a company is busy, but that is just too long! Thanks for the input!

Keep in mind members get 10% off WSM parts and also free shipping. Just message me a part number to get an order set up if you like! (y)

Has anyone had any experience with SES Engines (Sea Doo Engine Shop)?
I had my motor rebuilt by SES. They were slower than advertised but I expected that going in. Quality seems good but I do not have it running perfectly. Hopefully the new fuel pump I just ordered will fix that!

The only way to control the time frame is do it yourself. Pain in the azz and you don't save a lot of money but you get it when you want it.

I am not rebuilding a DI engine. LOL I do have 2 on they way... I am seriously thinking about not restoring any more DI skis. They are great.... just a lot more tedious.

I like RIDING the DI, I will never work on another one again! "Tedious" is not the word that comes to mind and I wont type the ones that do!
