one of my 95 spi's that runs premix keeps stalling at wot and then it takes a minute to get started again, and this is in the water. im mixing correctly, i want to know if maybe its running too lean cause i pulled the spark plugs off and half of it was dirty and half was clean. usually when i pull them out theyre always a little dirty. here are some pics, i hope you can see them well enough.

Check to see if the fuel vent is plugged. When it does it open the fuel tank cap and see if helps. You could also try and switching the fuel valve to reserve too, as it could be plugged. Is the compression good? It ideally should be 150psi. Have the carbs been rebuilt lately? Are they in sync and adjusted properly? Have you done any other improvements Lately?

the carbs were rebuilt in january by a mechanic and i just blocked off the oil pump so i had the carbs off and maybe i could have accidentally turned the screw. i only see two screws on that carb, one on top with a t handle that i use to adjust idle and one that has no t handle that i have never touched. the compression was good a couple weeks ago, it was still going as fast as the other one as quickly too, it just would stall after like thirty seconds wot. whats the fuel vent and where is it?

It should be a tube coming out of the fuel tank. The screw with the pin in it is the low speed screw. If I remember correctly that should be adjusted at "1" turn out. and the other screw has a plastic cap on it that cap prevents it from being turned out more than "1/4" turn. Pop off the plastic cap and be sure it is set to "0"...with a "1/4" allowed with the cap if needed. Be sure both carbs are in sync. Have you replaced spark plugs with new ones...they could just be fouled. NGK BR8ES gapped to .021"-.024"

im pretty sure these only have 1 carb its the 587 and ya those are new i thought they were fouled at first, but they only look fouled on one side and its weird... its a 1 to 40 ratio for premix right? i think thats what my manual says and my manual says its a nine gallon tank so thats pretty much a quart of oil each fill up, i usually add 5 gallons of gas at a time and put in a half quart of oil. ill check the vent line and low and high speed settings tomorrow i live on the water so i can test it out and let you know.

Your right...on the "95", single carb. I can't open the manual on that model to check out the specs.... I'm not on "my" computer right now...40:1 ratio is correct. That's 16 oz per 5 gallons or 3.25 oz per gallon. The pics aren't too good. It just might be a fouled spark plug. You could also try cutting off 1/4" off the spark plug wire. Take the spark plug cap off and cut it and reinstall the spark plug cap. It could help the spark also.

i think its sucking in air because i used hi temp rtv gasket in a tube for my oil pump block off and its prolly pretty crappy seal. im going to go to the auto parts store and getting a sheet of gasket material and im gonna cut a real gasket and then put it on with that tube stuff. whatdaya think?

NO, clockwise will close the High Speed screw...Counter Clockwise will open the adjustment. It's the same as tightening a screw or bolt.

Karl

yeah... thats what i figured out. i tightened them till they were both closed and left the HSA there and turned the :LSA out 1 1/4 and its been running fine for hours now. thanks for all the help, i had a fun day riding

:agree:, unless if he meant, when he's standing, with the LSA away from him, then yeah, turn the adjuster counter-clockwise
