i just replaced the pto boot and put new gaskets in for the rave valves. now, the GSX wont accelerate. i am assuming it has to do with the pto boot. i tore the old boot apart last year wile waterskiing
please help:willy_nilly:
how did you tear the boot up? and are you alking about the little boot were the driveshaft goes into the engine or are you talking about the rubber boot in front of the carbon seal,
the litttle boot that goes on the driveshaft to the engine, i had to take the entire jet pump assembly off to put it on,
i was water skiing last year, that it began to have acceleration problems. i checked it out and the pto boot was torn apart.
hmm i dont see how that would cause a problem, but when you pulled the driveshaft off did you make sure you still had the little black rubber bumbers on both sides of the driveshaft. also did you fill the pto grease cert up real good when putting the boot back
the drive shaft had the rubberstopper on it. i threw greese in the pto boot. i did not greese the greese fiting on the drive shaft.also when i took the jet pump housing off, there was a gasket that came off with it. i bought a quick gasket i think its called yamalube, is hat fine that i did that?
are you talking about the foam seal when you say gasket? hmm i still dont see what would be causing a accelerating problem. have you checked compression on the ski and does the pto turn freely when the plugs are out, also are all your motor mounts tight and in good shape
the pto does more freely with the spark plugs out, as for the compression, i will have to check it later due to an oncomming storm and no garrage:toetap05:
ya to me it sounds more of like a fuel delivery problem or maybe your coil pack is going out or something, it sucks there could be so many dif things your are just going to have to factor them out one at a time till you find the real issue
it should be 150psi on both holes if motor is in great shape other wise anything over 130 as long as they are both really close to each other, anything under 130psi your getting close to a top end rebiuld and will be lucky if it will run in the water, Be sure you pull both plugs and hold the throttle while you hold start and push it till the guage does not go up any more
compression is perfect for both cyclinders. both a tadd under 150 psi. i pulled both carbs off and they look fine. i still think that it is still the drive shaft. i had the wear ring and the prop replaced last year. those still look good
it always ran fine on the trailer. after getting it winterized, it smoked alot! but that doesnt raise any concern to me because i figure it just doesnt have water in it.
update: brought to the lake today, she runs mint, accelerates fine, but the new pto boot is now torn apart again, doen anybody know what could cause this?
I just put my ski in the water yesterday for the first time this year. It would start and idle great but would bog down when I gave it throttle. The problem turned out to be fouled plugs due the winterize/fogging oil I sprayed into the cylinders last year. I put in 2 new spark plugs and everything works great.
i put new spark plugs in mine, took the carbs off and sprayed it with carb cleaner put them back togother and they work perfect now!(except for the alignment)
update:took the ski to local dealership to diagnose. the balancer shaft actually shit out the bearings and seals and when i stick my hand in there i can completly move the shaft around. he said i will have to remove the entire engine to get to it. does anyone know the exact name of the parts i will need?
