We bought a 2000 GTI 717 Seadoo, runs great but had a vibration at idle, when we hit the throttle it smooths out real nice, we fired it up and got under ski to find the shaft is wobbling a bit. Can this be straighten up, when we pull it out will it just come out of the bottom of the hull or top, I have pump out already and going to move the sleeve back towards the pump to get to the clip, once we unhook the
pto at rear of motor will this just come out and how, can we reuse all parts like carbon seal and such? Can we heat the shaft up or should we buy a new one from SBT or a used one if needed?

the 717's just shake at idle. Its what they do :P

Are you sure its the shaft that is bent or was it the engine shaking that made it look like it was bent?

When it smooths out after idle does the shaft still look like it wobbles?

They can be straightened by any good machine shop.

The shaft can come forward and under the motor but its better to pull the clip and pull the shaft out the back.
If the carbon seal is still in good shape you could reuse it.

If your driveshaft is bent, ship it up to me & I'll straiten it for you N/C if you pay shipping. Im about 3 hours north. I can get them within .001"-.003" thousands true. Just about every machine I have had I needed to be straighten some. Not saying thats causing your issue, but if its bent more than .050", its not helping anything.

visible slight wobble

At idle it has a visible wobble, then my assistant hit the throttle and the shaft smoothed out, I was just going to buy a new one and rebuild the pump with a Solas impeller we bought too. I would like to straighten this one if possible and maybe get a brand new one too, any thought on aftermarket and OEM? Will this shaft take out the rear seal in the motor?

Like I mentioned above, I can straighten it for you no problem. But you will have shipping both ways. Still far cheaper than buying a new one tho, & I'll bet your only one day UPS to Green bay. PM me if your interested.

Otherwise there are shafts on ebay, or PM Minnetonka I am sure he would have a straight one too

So what ever happened with your vibration?
Just curious if the shaft cured it, or did you find something else?

We did the shaft and 99% went away, has some vibration but think it's a two stroke and it going to have a bit from that, but the nasty wobbles are gone. Thanks to a member here for some needed advice and help.

Glad it worked out for you. Good to know USPS was able to get it back without damaging it too.

All my 2-strokes have a little vibration. MY 4tec's are much smoother by comparison.

I got twins of the same Ski. Your going to have a bit of shake. It's the nature of the 2 stroke beast. Hit the throttle and it's SEE YA! Any other problems ask away. I know mine really well.
