On the ropes.. Want to get up and have another go but...
The boat Sportster SEDI 125 Hp 2 stroke 2005 - looks great in the garage.
Total run time 30 hrs (from the B.U.D.S.) Most of this at towing speed (this goes back some time now!!).
The boat has not been used much due 1) major family upheavals, 2) When a fault occurs the enthusiasm has wanned. And the turn around time is long.
Finally an intermittent fault came good (!!) and became a permanent fault almost a year ago now. The boat had been in and out of the dealer following this one - and finally October last year's diagnosis - need to replace onboard computer
- it is a black box and not fixable (Mum fell sick aound this time
so boat placed on back burner - now I have a bit more time for a follow up).
Why? Well currently the engine will run up to a few thousand revs but will not go faster. Replacing the computer (one from a jetski uses the same part) allowed the motor to rev' freely. This was not available under warranty. Locally (Australia) the asking price for this is around $2200.00. At today's rates that is around $2050.00 USD - a bit rich for an under stressed part.
1) Does anyone know if the computer is fixable? It appears that some engine protection feature has been tripped and does not get reset by a service. (I assume that the sensor which triggered this is ok as the jetski computer was ok - but maybe not).
2) Failing that is there a place where crashed jetski parts are re-cycled which would work here?
Or 3) Cost of a new one in US - and good place to try (as can post fairly easily the local market is very limited)?
Input appreciated . Would love to get the kids back out on the river
