Does anyone tried to install a 2 step retractable ladder purchased directly from Windline in a 99 Challenger 1800?

Mine is in bad shape and I noticed Windline's web site has a ladder that is identical to mine (UP-2). Price difference between the Windline and the OEM Windline ladder is $110!!

I talked to Windline and they said that I should get the PN from Seadoo since some of these ladders were custom made (small modifications) but I find it unlikely that Seadoo will tell me.

I am glad you posted this. I have asked several times if there was a 2 or 3 step ladder that is a direct bolt in replacement. I am short and the factory ladder is a little too short.I am going to go research it.

The UP-3 looks like it would work. Same width. Stored it would be 1 inch farther out. I think that rubber strap would still work. That may be the only issue, but I think you could make it work. Someone needs to order it and give it a try. I wonder what their return policy is.

Is windline definitely the OEM ladder maker?

After reading more it says it comes with the rubber strap. If they have a good return policy, I might give it a shot.

Well, Windline is the OEM. The beat up ladder in my challenger is labeled Windline but it is possible the previous owner installed this. Unfortunatedly, the label is not complete and I cant read the part number.

I think it will work although windline told me today that Seadoo's ladders had small modifications per their specs. I still think it si worth a try. At $86 vs $190 is well worth it.

What did you guys find out? Even a 2 step ladder would be better than the 1 step setup. I'm going to order the 2 step it's way to hard to get out of deep water on the 1 step setup. 3 would be ideal, but I'm concerned it won't stow correctly.

I never tried it. I hate to buy it and then it wont work. I think it will work, just havent seen anyone do it yet.

Well I'll let you know how the 2 step works. I just ordered mine. I'm concerned that the 3 step would hangout too far as my 1 step is just tucked under now. the 2 step is basically the same setup with a telescoping ladder instead of a single dropdown. I'll take pics once it's installed.

2 step Windline Ladder Installed

Well got my ladder installed tonight. Works perfectly!!!

Irish, you have just made this fat kid happy! My wife will appreciate it as well.

As asked above, It looks like totally different hardware, I am assuming it came with what you needed? How hard was it to get inside for the nuts on the backside, or did it all connect from the outside?

The last question would be what part number did you order, and did you order it direct or some outlet like west marine?

Thanks for taking a chance on this install. We will all appreciate it.

The bolts have barrell nuts built into the fiberglass and I used https://windline.com/index.php?act=viewdetails&mod=68 only thing I had to use was the ladder it comes with hardware, but didn't need it. You'll have to remove the stud for the rubber strap from your old ladder(9/16") wrench and remove the strap from the new ladder(phillips screwdriver) and you'll have the install I have. Also the rubber stops on your ladder you'll need to take those off the new ladder doesn't come with them. You'll see what I mean when you do it. Put silicone on the screws to make sure you seal it up as that area is below the water line. Or just put silicone in the thread of the barrell nuts. Took me about 20 minutes to do the install.

Nice ladder.
It does appear almost identical to the one that came with my 98 Sportster, right down to the rubber strap. For whatever reason, they attached that rubber strap with a pop rivet. 13 year later the rubber is broken, and there is no easy way to replace it. I use a tiny bungee cord instead to hold it up.

The same one came on my Sportster. I thought all Seadoo's had this kind of ladder but I guess not

The original owner had a 3 step on my 97' Challenger 1800, but then someone else made it a 2 step.

Just drill the rivet and order new strap from Sea Doo
