so me and my girl took the boat out yesterday and everything was going great.. i decided to let her drive for a bit being that there was nobody around.. so she is driving and going like 25mph when last minute i see something floating but she had no idea and by the time i could even mutter the word turn all i feel is bam.. it felt like it hit the boat at least twice im guessing it hit the front and then somewhere on the side or whatever.. all is good as far as i can see on teh boat.. i still dont know what it was.. i turned the boat around and went back by the object and couldnt tell what it was.. it looked like wood and plastic in one thing.. wasnt all that heavy but good enough where i though it might have done damage.. so i took in on the boat and got closer to the edge of the river and tossed her onto the shore.. but i have noticed alot of floating wood and whatnot and was wondering if a keel guard would protect the boat.. i figure that the first part of the boat to hit long pieces of wood would be that area of the hull.. i mean obviously one you hit it it will either turn and possibly hit the side or even just go under.. i try to avoid all items but in a good chop you sometimes dont see things till last minute if even then.. and with my girl driving well i doubt she sees anything lol... but just curious if its worth the investment.. thanks

Keel Gard

It will protect against a direct hit, but not a side scrape obviously. Keel Gards are most useful to prevent trailer hits and beaching damage. They will not protect against a full grounding on a sand bar cause the hull will tip sideways and scratch. Dont put the Keel Gard the full length of the hull, it will interfere with jet pump flow, just the bow and 1-2 feet back. Dont use it along the sides of the hull or for Speedsters, along the flat bottom portion (interfrees with jet flow also). It works very well if applied exactly as directed including the sanding step. White KG will yellow after about 3 years or sooner if left in the water.
