I have a 1999 sportster single rotax 85hp. This problem happens intermittently. What happens is when I hit the trottle to get up and go the engine increases its rpm but goes no where and white smoke is pouring out back of boat. But at a slow speed I can creep back to dock. I can go back out and it can be fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Do you have cavitation when you hit the throttle?

There is two things going on. The smoke is oil. It could be coming from the center crank seals. Don't worry about it as it will clear up once you get going.

The second problem is cavatation. Since you have an intermittent issue... I'd say your driveshaft seal is going bad, but you should check the entire drive.
