96 sportster has white smoke and what smells like gas mixed with water coming out if exhaust. Any thoughts.

That's a lot of 2 stroke oil coming out of the exhaust. It most likely indicates that your inner crankshaft seals are leaking into the engine. That would explain your boat being a mosquito fogger on start up for a few minutes until the oil burns off.

You can add a shut off valve on the Rotary valve oil feed line to shut off the oil and prevent it from filling the engine when storing. The only permanent fix is a complete rebuild if the engine.

Thanks for your insight. Since my last post I've emptied the old gas and started running new fans. Soooo much better. The oily watered has improved as well. New problem. Noticed water squirting from the top half of the exhaust. Didn't seem to affect engine performance. Ordering a new one unless someone has some wisdom nuggets for an alternative. Such as welding the dime size hole. Thanks for any and all help.

That would be the Welch plugs on the exhaust pipes. The lower ones rot because of water sitting inside the exhaust. I just got both my pipes for my 98 speedster back from the welder today. Mine are 787s but same concept.
