Hey all,

Never owned a sea-doo PWC before.....looking to buy one soon and can't decide between the RXT is 255 versus the GTX Ltd is 255....

I will be using it mainly at the cottage on Lake Nipissing in North-eastern Ontario...this is a pretty big lake, shallow around the shoreline for quite aways out...can get very rough and is rarely calm....white caps are common....

I would like to use it to go along the shoreline, looking at other camps and for sightseeing and visiting the many islands on the lake....will mostly be going alone (no passengers)...

Thought that this bigger sea-doo would handle the waves better and be more comfortable (better suspension for in the waves)

....I can only figure that the main difference (besides color and the few options/accessories on the GTX which I probably don't need) between these two--according to the brochure--is the factory-calibrated suspension.....GTX is calibrated for a smoother ride at cruising speeds VS RXT has a stiffer calibration for sport riding and larger waves of offshore riding---according to the brochure....

Anybody own or have experience with one or both of these and can give me a better idea which one would be more appropriate for my usage?

Thanks in advance.

get the RXT

Depends on what you value for $1500. The GTX is has a depth finder and some other stuff that is pretty useless. (The tie lines are not really made to actually moor the craft in any kind of situation other than calm water for short periods of time - and if you really want them you can buy them and have them put on the RXT) The suspension tuning is somewhat misleading, On my RXT when I hit the auto button the setting is about midway on the scale for the suspension, I believe the GTX auto setting is higher up the scale...that's the difference according to the dealer and from what I have observed with mine. So I hit Auto and then manually adjust it up to the higher setting to ride, takes about 3 seconds. Supposedly there is a difference in the seat but I cant really see it...it can't be much of a difference.

I have had a blast riding the RXT iS. DId a 90 mile ride Sunday, half of it in extremely rough water. It is a really amazing machine.

BTW: Expect to drop nearly $300 for the 10 hour maintenance.

Thanks for the info on the differences.....I am leaning towards the RXT....I like the yellow as well....

great to hear that it is good in the waves because our lake is usually rough and regularly, has white caps because it is so large and relatively shallow...

FWIW I've talked to two RXTis Owners and 1 GTXis owners who both have mentioned that they've had several computer errors and trips to the shop and that BRP has acknowledged there are some things they are working on with all the programing on these. One is even on his second display cluster.

Oh that does not sound too great but I guess it is to be expected given that this technology is new this year...

Perhaps it might be best if I wait until next year to get one when they have all of the 'bugs' worked out on these.....

waiting or not

I was leaning towards waiting but they gave me a pretty good deal so I thought that waiting a year might conceivably cost me between $2 and 4 K so we went ahead (and my wife was willing to say yes which helped too) I have about 20 hours in so far and no issues at all.

The dealer at Lake of the Ozarks has not had anyone of their 30 or so units coming back yet and they were among the first dealers to get them.

Fingers crossed.....

Good to know about your experience.....

I will decide soon what to do.....buy this year or next??

I was thinking about waiting to see what next year's lineup was going to offer....I think they usually come out in early August with that info???

I tried out the 15' seadoo boat too but wasn't sure I needed a boat since it would probably be mostly myself using it since I'm not married and don't have kids....most friends/relatives go to their own camp as well...

next year

The info I have gleaned is that there won't be any changes on the iS models. I have heard that there will be a lot of "new products" in the lineup for 2010. Speculation is that the braking, throttle/neutral and cruise will make its way to other models in the lineup. But the suspension will remain only on the top 2 models.

I've heard 2010 things are going to change. I've also heard that BRP is more prepared for the current economics and that the deals that are going on this year are going to be harder to get next year.

If I bought mine a year too early, I don't know that I can wait 4 years for my next one though :D
